The design of the BMW iX has been developed from the inside out. The new BMW flagship has been created to provide quality of life and wellbeing for drivers and passengers. The clear and minimalist design of its exterior showcases a new form of mobility geared squarely to the needs of the vehicle’s occupants.
The exterior design of the BMW iX is based on the power and the characteristic strengths of a BMW SAV, combining them with a reduced, future-oriented design vocabulary and a holistic, sustainable vehicle concept.
The Shy Tech principle can be seen in the BMW grille and bonnet. The radar sensors required for intelligent driver assistance systems are hidden behind the grille, while the BMW eDrive technology for sustainable mobility is concealed beneath the bonnet.
The latest-generation high-voltage battery enables a range of over 600 kilometres in the WLTP cycle. That equates to more than 300 miles according to the EPA’s FTP-75 test procedure. (All figures relating to performance, energy consumption and range are predicted values based on the car’s current stage of development.) The energy and range of the BMW iX also benefit from innovative solutions in the areas of lightweight design and aerodynamics. For example, the drag coefficient (Cd) of the BMW iX is just 0.25 – proof of its outstanding aerodynamics.
The handling qualities of the BMW iX and the level of comfort inside the cabin likewise benefit from reduced drag and the car’s bodywork structure, with its aluminium spaceframe and pioneering Carbon Cage.
