On April 30th (TUE), Shin Won-sik, the Korean Minister of National Defense, visited Hanwha Armoured Vehicle Centre of Excellence(H-ACE), the manufacturing facility of an Australian self-propelled howitzer(AS-9) and the Redback armoured vehicle in Geelong, Australia. Minister Shin met Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Richard Marles to look around the construction sites and production lines, then they were briefed on the details by the CEO of Hanwha Defence Australia.
The Geelong manufacturing facility represents a promising opportunity for sustainable defence cooperation between Australia and Korea. Producing the self-propelled howitzer AS-9 and the Redback armoured vehicle would enhance the Australian armed forces’ capability and the interoperability of weapon systems between the two countries, ultimately increasing their strategic solidarity.
