This is the brand new Ford Mustang GTD and a first look in person! Join me direct from Car Week 2023 to check out the ultimate derivative of the 7th gen Mustang, a road homologation of the race car. What a beast!

The latest 7th generation S650 Mustang launched last year and has been followed closely by the fairly extraordinary Mustang GTD. The acronym stands for Grand Touring Daytona, symbolising its existence as a homologation version of the ultimate Mustang race car to participate in the 24hrs of Daytona and Le Mans races.

However, there are some big changes here; full carbon bodywork, active aerodynamics, a transaxle configuration, magnesium wheels, and so much more. With the official reveal taking place at The Quail during Monterey Car Week 2023, we're at a special preview evening the night before with a first opportunity to take it all in.

After the end of production of the Ford GT, this is very much the next collaboration with Multimatic, to build a road going race car. It houses some very clever semi-active suspension that will offer multiple different driving setups, active aerodynamics that features DRS on the gigantic rear wing, and will be produced in limited numbers - with the exact amount yet to be confirmed but a few thousand expected.

While price is not confirmed, the rumoured figure is $300,000. Arguably a hefty price for a Mustang, but significantly under that of its supercar rivals on the market. Either way, I cannot wait to find out more and experience the Mustang GTD! As to whether it becomes a future Shmeemobile as an addition to my garage, that remains to be seen...
