Have Mercedes-AMG got it right with the new C63 S E Performance, let's find out!? I'm in Affalterbach, Germany to take the new 2.0l turbo hybrid 4-cylinder equipped super-saloon for a first drive to experience one of the most controversial AMGs to arrive in recent years.

The latest generation C63 AMG boast some extraordinary figures; putting out 680 horsepower with the new hybrid set up; offering a full electric driving range, immense acceleration, and more technology than ever seen before in a C Class. However, petrolheads around the world have been up in arms about the model abandoning the various V8 engines that have been so loved in recent generations.

Having previously taken a first look at the car and also visited the Daimler test facility in Immendingen for a passenger run in a prototype car, this time it's my opportunity to get behind the wheel and experience it for myself. After heading initially to some local countryside roads, it's then over to the Autobahn to push the pedal to the metal on the derestricted sections.

With regards to the brake behaviour, this car was confirmed by AMG to be normal the following day, so it must just be a very unusual recouperation system which is very unnatural. I'm left curious to try another car down the line to see if it's the same.
