The new EQE is the latest EV from Mercedes, as part of their rapidly expanding electric car line-up. This is the 300kW (408hp) EQE 500 which we can explore in detail with a full walkaround outside and in, check out the technology and take for a first drive.

Following hot on the heels of the Mercedes EQS, the new EQE is based on the same EQ architecture albeit with a slightly smaller 10-cell battery instead of 12-cell. However, in the 500 we have twin motors for a total output of 300kW or 408hp with a 90.4kWh usable battery. Launched initially are the single motor EQE 350 in RWD or AWD, and this AWD 500.

Inside however, we are greeted by the fabulous Mercedes Hyperscreen dashboard; consisting of 3 separate displays integrated into a single surround to give the feeling of one gigantic screen. There are huge amounts of personalisation options available to the driver and passengers through all of this technology, not to mention everything else that we know from the Mercedes portfolio.

For me, the EQE is of interesting as it falls in approximately the same segment as my recently departed Porsche Taycan; sitting a few cms shy of 5 metres long and with the EQE targeting a slightly more business and sporty approach than the larger sibling of the EQS.

After a full tour to take in the details, let's head straight out from Frankfurt, Germany, to fully experience the new EQE and everything about it.
