Is the RAM 1500 the Ultimate American Pickup Truck? > Shmee150

Let's discover the RAM 1500 Laramie, an all-American pick-up truck and actually something unusual for me and quite rare on European roads! With a huge 5.7l V8 with over 400hp and 1,700 litres of luggage space, let's get out on the roads and discover what it's like.

AEC Europe are the importer for Dodge and RAM in the region and invited me to come and drive the RAM 1500. Having previously not spent much time at the wheel of a pick-up; only reviewing a Mercedes X Class and immensely briefly driving Salomondrin's Raptor S, it seemed like an opportunity to find out more. The Laramie trim level sits above the Big Horn, but beneath the Longhorn and Limited levels, but comes with a generally high specification level.

On the inside you'll find a lot of tech, practicality and storage space - along with a few more cup holders than you might ever need. Up front is the V8 mated to an 8 speed auto that makes quite an epic and grumbly sound. Of course it's also huge, and you are very aware of that but perhaps the thing that surprised me the most is that it drives like a much more normal car than you'd really expect.

After an introduction walkaround to go through the details, let's head out onto the German Autobahns to put the foot down and take it to Vmax flat out! The result; the limited at 176km/h with a lot of noise.
