The Lexus LFA is a masterpiece, and without doubt a dream car for my garage in the future! Join me to test drive this stunning Japanese machine from FL Motors on the German Autobahn, soaking up one of the greatest V10 sounds to ever exist. There is no question, one day I'd love to add one to the Shmeemobiles!
It's now been over a decade since Lexus introduced the LFA, a car that was far ahead of its time in terms of technology and performance. Featuring a 4.8l V10 that makes 560hp and 480Nm, the primary focus is on the sound, one of the most beautiful pitches that has ever come from a combustion engine, with acoustics tuned by Yamaha. In fact the engine revs from idle to 9,000rpm in just 0.6s requiring a digital dash purely due to the speed with which it moves and a traditional needle not being able to accurately keep up.
Only 500 LFAs were ever made, 63 of which are the even rare Nurburgring Edition, however even the standard car boasted an impressive 7:24 lap time on tyres of the time, with the Nurburgring edition with more power, extra aero and improved dynamics cutting that to 7:14. Put the car on newer tyres and that would get very close to the 7 minute mark! However, this car has only covered 4,000km from new and as such to preserve its history is running on the original set, which it has to be said makes for a cautious drive as they have certainly hardened over time.
Nonetheless, the experience is just incredible. The LFA has always been on my shortlist, often falling a close 4th on my 'dream car list' behind the Ferrari F50, Porsche Carrera GT and Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series. With the latter having recently been added to the garage, I think I can safely now put the LFA in 3rd place, and maybe one day it might be possible to add one to the garage!
