The new BMW M2 CS is a recipe for fun! It's time for a first test drive in the new limited edition, lighter-weight, more potent version of BMW's popular M2 to see what it's all about. After a walkaround to run through the changes, new carbon parts, and what's gone into it, it's straight in for some quick laps at the Sachsenring.
The BMW M2 CS beings from a strong base with the M2 Competition, and then adds 40 more horsepower to reach a total of 450hp from the 3.0l TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engine, with the same 550nm, and then also shaves weight thanks to a carbon fibre roof construction, carbon bonnet, carbon central tunnel and more. Improvements also come now thanks to having M Adaptive Suspension, a lighter wheel option, M Sports brakes as standard (with optional carbon ceramics), and more aero with a front splitter and rear wing working in harmony.
The M2 CS is available as both a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCT, the latter of which I can experience on track. It's a limited production model by time, meaning slightly more than 2,000 will be built in total with European deliveries coming through thick and fast later this year. Options are limited with 4 body colours available including the launch Misano Blue, finished with either matt Gold or Jet Black wheels, completed with 2 tyre choices.
After taking a look through the car at the various changes that have been made, it's straight into the hot seat for some quick laps at the Sachsenring behind a pace car to feel what it's all about. On a circuit with intense undulations and tight corners gives an opportunity to get a first feel for what the M2 CS is like, in the natural habitat that is intended for the car. The formula of saving weight, increasing power, and setting it up for track prowess naturally makes it more light-footed and confident on track.
