My first time seeing the new Shelby GT500 in person! Since launch I've been very keen on the new beastly Ford Mustang so during a visit to the New York International Auto Show we can check it out while also being reunited with the Koenigsegg Jesko and picking out some more new highlights like the Porsche 911 Speedster and Mercedes-Benz GLS. What do you think though, try to get a GT500 and import it to the UK?!
During a whistle-stop 24 hour visit to New York we can take in the best bits of the Auto Show including the Ford GT in the new Gulf Heritage livery, the Mustang Performance Pack, and of course a good stop viewing the GT500. Then it's over to Nissan to see the updates to the Nismo GT-R, a new 50th Anniversary edition of the GT-R and also the same GT-R50 by Italdesign that I test drive in Dubai earlier in the year. Porsche also finally revealed the production spec 911 Speedster including a Heritage livery for it, while Mercedes presented the GLS, a facelift GLC and GLC Coupe, and the EQC 1886 Edition.
I also stopped to take a look at the Rivian R1S before venturing to the Manhattan Motorcars stand to discover some supercar hypercars including the SCG 003, Rimac C_two, Koenigsegg CCX, Bugatti Chiron 110 Ans, BAC Mono, Lamborghini Aventador SVJ and Urus, and then of course to have a proper look again at the insane Koenigsegg Jesko.
Upon exiting the show I stopped to take another look at the Shelby GT500, a car that isn't going to be on sale in Europe. The only way to purchase one would be to buy it in the USA for example, then import it and register; that means transportation costs, 10% duty, 20% VAT and more to register it so becomes quite a big operation! However, it's such a menacing looking beast and would be an amazing garage addition alongside the Ford GT and 2 Focus RS Editions. Let's see if something becomes possible - having just one of these in the UK would be something very special!
